Playa del Carmen or just "Playa"

Playa del Carmen (ancient name is Xaman-Ha) is a popular tourist area in eastern Mexico. It is a city located along the Caribbean Sea in the municipality of Solidaridad, in the state of Quintana Roo, just under an hour from Cancun Airport. There are several ways to connect from the airport to Playa Del Carmen. You can take a taxi, rent a car, book private transfers or take ADO bus company to Playa Del Carmen.

Playa del Carmen, or just "Playa" as it is also commonly referred to by locals, is the perfect location to start exploring the Riviera Maya. Its central location and quick access to taxis and bus terminals, makes discovery along the coast easy and fun. It is a tourist destination with beautiful landscapes, underground rivers, ancient Mayan architecture and incredible forest cover.

Originally a small fishing town Playa del Carmen began a world-famous scuba diving destination. At the moment Playa del Carmen is one of the top five destinations for scuba diving in the world. The coral reef in the Riviera Maya is the second longest barrier reef. There are many scuba diving and snorkeling opportunities around Playa, although the reefs are off the shore and are only accessible by boat. The offshore reef is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef.

There is a mix of things to explore from reefs to wreck diving and of course the famous caverns.

Playa del Carmen is one of the places in the world with the highest rate of population growth. It is one of the most glamorous places in the Mexican Caribbean.

After your day at the beach, head into town and take a stroll along the pedestrian Fifth Avenue strip, locally known as Quinta Avenida. It is the main tourist thoroughfare in Playa. It is a pedestrian only, cobblestone lined street which spans approximately 20 blocks. Along 5th Ave. you will find a variety of restaurants, bars, clubs, shopping opportunities and various services. In Playa, nearly everything starts from this street.

Since Playa DelCarmen is very international, English is the common language. Most people at hotel front desk, shops and restaurants in tourist areas all speak Spanish and English and maybe even some other languages.

The weather in Playa Del Carmen is great for the beach year round. The average temperature is about 27 degrees Celsius or 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Playa del Carmen is one of the Riviera Maya’s top culinary destinations where you’ll find everything from street tacos to five-star establishments.

From Playa del Carmen sail the ferry to Cozumel, the largest island in Mexico.
