The natural history of the Yucatán Peninsula is truly unique. Having existed for millions of years as a coral reef, the region later emerged as ocean levels dropped. During this dry period, the limestone was carved and dissolved into an elaborate system of underground caves and tunnels, adorned with majestic stalactites and stalagmites. After the Ice Age, the cenotes naturally filled with fresh water and became the “sacred wells” of the Maya civilization, serving as the main source of drinking water and believed to possess spiritual and healing properties.

Cavern diving is a truly wonderful and unforgettable experience. While you don’t need specialized training to enjoy it, it is essential to have a qualified guide and to strictly follow all safety rules. As caverns are enclosed environments, the right attitude, supervision, and proper orientation are crucial. Over the past 20 years, many divers have chosen the Riviera Maya as their destination for unforgettable dive vacations.

Cavern diving requires excellent buoyancy control. Some cenotes demand more advanced skills and techniques than others.

This is an extreme scuba diving experience, designed for certified divers who want to enjoy one of the most thrilling dives in the world.
Bull sharks are large and powerful creatures; they are not shy and will often make passes close to divers. While this is normal behavior for them, it can be an adrenaline rush if you're not prepared for it.

The bull shark (Carcharhinus leucas) is a robust species with a flat, rounded snout, a greyish top, and a white underside. The larger females can grow up to 11 feet (3.5 meters) long, weigh over 500 pounds (230 kilograms), and live for more than 15 years. Bull sharks are unique in that they are one of the few shark species capable of swimming in both saltwater and freshwater.

Bull sharks are among the most feared ocean predators, even though humans are not a part of their diet. Unfortunately, their bad reputation often stems from sensationalist media coverage. However, diving with these incredible creatures is an experience that more and more people are eager to share!

Playa del Carmen is one of the best places in the world to dive with bull sharks. The warm waters and excellent visibility make it the perfect spot to appreciate the beauty and grace of these incredible predators between November and March.

The bull shark (Carcharhinus leucas) is an opportunistic species that can grow up to 4 meters in length. This powerful predator feeds on a wide range of aquatic life, including fish, turtles, marine mammals, and even other sharks.

From November, the bull sharks visit us to spend the winter in our waters, staying until March when they migrate north.

We recommend that divers do a local reef dive prior to this experience, especially if they are using new or unfamiliar equipment, or if they haven't dived in the past 12 months. Group sizes are limited to 6 divers per guide to ensure a safe and personalized experience.

We will be diving with the bull sharks at depths of 80 ft (25 m). This is a static dive—simply a bull shark encounter in their natural habitat.

No bait or attraction is used during this dive. Instead, we will search for the sharks in their natural environment, giving you the opportunity to take pictures and observe these incredible creatures up close.

Scuba Planet Mexico offers daily dives, giving divers the chance to experience these majestic animals in their natural habitat.

Bull shark diving in Playa del Carmen is a unique, unforgettable, and amazing opportunity for any diver. Come and experience this magnificent adventure with us! Book your dive today!
